About the item

Eco Palm Wax™ with palm wax. All scented pillar candles contain only 100% pure essential oils. Essential Oils marked with an asterisk (*) are certified . Unwrap label before lighting. Our Eco Palm Wax Pillars At our fair trade factory in Indonesia, we use solar hot water to melt the palm wax to 158° F. This liquid is then hand poured into a mold to produce a pillar candle. Hand poured pillar candles tend to be denser than machine made pillar candles because less air is injected into the pillar candle mold. A pillar candle typically produces about 13 lumens of visible light and 40 watts of heat, although this can vary depending primarily on the characteristics of the candle wick. For comparison, a 40 watt incandescent light bulb produces approximately 500 lumens for the same a of power. A modern candle typically burns at a rate of about 0.1 g/min, releasing heat of about 77 watts, plus or minus about 9 watts. The luminous efficacy is about 0.17 lumens per watt (luminous efficacy of a source), about a 100 times lower than an incandescent light bulb. There are differing opinions about which kind of wax in a pillar candle is the "most natural." Some manufactures of soy wax pillar candles cl that only their soy wax is biodegradable. However, paraffin, beeswax and palm wax used in pillar candles are also biodegradable. Some soy candle retailers also cl that soy candles burn cleaner, whereas any type of candle wax (paraffin, soy, palm or beeswax) can be made to burn clean. It's more a matter of how the candle is engineered than the type of wax used. If the wick is the right size and you don't clog it up with too much dye or fragrance, it will burn clean. Soy wax producers have adopted the convention that they can call any candle a soy candle if it contains more than 25% soy wax. There is no government regulation. Soy is ly distilled using hexane to make soy oil. It is then hydrogenated to make a soft wax like material for container candles. The processing disqualifies it from ever becoming certified as . 100% soy wax cannot be made hard enough to make a pillar or taper so no one has been able to produce a clean burning efficient 100% soy wax pillar. Manufactures of soy candle pillars have to add 75% paraffin, palm or beeswax to pour a pillar candle. Beeswax and palm wax are the only commercial non-synthetic candle waxes. Some manufactures of beeswax pillar candles cl beeswax gives off y negative ions. No scientific studies have been done, but the common assumption is that all lit candles give off about the same a of negative ions. Ghosting or candle soot is produced when a candle does not burn the wax fuel completely. Soot can be a concern to those who frequently burn a candle indoors, because it can stain walls and furniture. Usually trimming pillar candle wick to about 6 millimeters (¼ inch) or shorter will keep smoking to a minimum. A flickering flame in a draft will also produce more smoke. Pillar candles should be burned in an area free from drafts. Thinner pillar candles are more likely to recover as soon as the draft is removed; the wax that dripped down off the candle will be consumed and should not create a wax puddle. Flickering is more likely to occur in a jar candle if the jar opening is too narrow and not enough air circulates around the wick which will cause it to smoke. Pillar candles tend to be less likely to create candle soot than jar candles. We do not source palm oil from Sumatra or Borneo (Indonesia). The palm tree farms we source from in Malaysia have signed an international agreement to only expand on existing agricultural land. Palm growers, Agropalma in Brazil and Daabon in Colombia, are USDA certified. EcoSocial's fair trade independent seal guarantees that these farms promote sustainable human, social and environmental development. Ancient GMO free perennial palm trees require no tilling of the soil and are grown wi
